A few words about me
My name is Jens-Peter Weismantel, and I did not suddenly discover yesterday that music and loudspeakers might make a business model. I have been DJing since 1992, later spent about ten years on online radio, and in 2015 I made the move into self-employment and have been working under my own name ever since.
What interests me far more than any artificial DJ show is how an evening needs to fit the people who are celebrating. I am not a fan of treating every event with exactly the same concept. If you already know clearly what you want, great. If you only have a rough direction in mind so far, that is perfectly fine as well. The rest can be worked out together.
When to enquire
The most sensible time to enquire is as soon as your venue in Hansaviertel is confirmed. During the main season from May to September, a lead time of roughly 6 to 12 months is a good guide. Outside that season, 1 to 3 months is often enough. Enquiring earlier still never hurts – it merely saves you the frustration of hoping for a date that may already be gone.
The off-season runs from October to April. Plan your party or Christmas party 1 to 3 months in advance. If you are getting married next year or planning a celebration between May and September, now is a very good time to coordinate your preferred dates early. The New Year's Eve celebration is currently still available and should be coordinated in good time.

Whether it is a birthday, pre-wedding party, anniversary or a larger celebration with family and friends: hosts want atmosphere, guests would ideally each like to hear their own music, and somewhere in between stands the DJ. Anyone who thinks I only have to press play and the rest will sort itself out either knows private parties only by hearsay or has been extremely lucky.
In Hansaviertel, things usually work just like they do elsewhere: first you need a feel for the evening, then for the guests, and then for the right moment. Some people want to dance early, others only later, and others are simply thrilled when something comes on that they have not heard in years.
That is why I do not try to turn private parties into a pretend nightclub. My job is to shape an evening out of your guests, your occasion and your atmosphere – one that stays lively without pulling in five directions at once. When that works well, it looks easy. It is not.

Still looking puzzled? Good. That small bit of confusion was intentional. As at any celebration, poor planning can damage the evening, and well-meant surprises can throw a schedule off completely. The difference is that at an ordinary private party you can always say, “Next time we will do it better.” Ideally, a wedding only happens once.
That is why I prepare weddings more thoroughly than other events. The final planning meeting with the couple ideally takes place at the venue. I also coordinate with the best man, maid of honour or whoever is organising surprises, because their ideas can have a real impact on the flow of the evening. Staying in touch on the wedding day itself helps prevent awkward interruptions and keeps the celebration running naturally.
The borough of Mitte offers plenty of wedding venues. If you are already looking for a DJ, chances are you have found your venue – perhaps you have even booked it. You may still have a few favourites nearby on your shortlist, possibly including Humboldt Carré at Gendarmenmarkt in Mitte. Either way, it is worth asking about the DJ early, ideally around 12 months before the date. Popular dates tend to go first.

Anyone celebrating on New Year’s Eve does not want thin background sound and definitely not a DJ who acts surprised at midnight as though the key moment of the evening has only just occurred to him. The place should be running, the mood should carry and between the toast, the countdown and the fireworks it should look and feel like a proper party rather than supervised waiting for midnight.
And yes, New Year’s Eve does not run on normal DJ rates. That should hardly be a surprise. While other people are raising glasses, setting off fireworks or at least trying to eat in peace, the DJ is working. Anyone who seriously believes that New Year’s Eve is merely an ordinary Saturday with a little glitter sprinkled on top is usually brought back to reality fairly quickly.
For your commercial New Year’s Eve event in Hansaviertel, the current flat rate for 2026 is 1.200 EUR plus 19% VAT for up to 200 guests, 6 to 8 hours of music, sound and lighting, all in one room or hall. GEMA fees are not included.

An enquiry becomes an emergency case for me when it arrives less than 72 hours before music start time or when the actual booking only comes together within the final 48 hours beforehand. From that point on, this is no longer a normal planning process but damage control with very limited time. That is exactly why an emergency booking works differently from a normally prepared event.

I bring equipment, music, microphone work if required and enough routine to make something solid out of the situation even under time pressure. What you cannot expect is the usual level of detail preparation. I will not build elaborate individual playlists at the last minute, buy missing tracks or design the perfect running order for every programme item. What I do instead is quickly grasp what matters, set up properly and rescue an evening that looked very unstable shortly before.

That is exactly where a DJ can make sense for reasons other than partying. Music can create atmosphere without pushing itself to the front, smooth transitions and give a business event more life without making it feel like a disco. Then there is the technical side: clear speech for announcements, wireless microphones for moderation and a setup that still works properly if the official part later turns into something more sociable.
I accompany such events in a way that keeps them professional without making them sterile. And if people do want to celebrate after the presentation, reception or award ceremony, there is no need to reinvent half the setup. The technical side is already there and the atmosphere can shift naturally into the evening.
