I have been DJing since 1992, later spent about ten years on online radio, and in 2015 I made the move into self-employment and have been working under my own name ever since.
What interests me far more than any artificial DJ show is how an evening needs to fit the people who are celebrating. I am not a fan of treating every event with exactly the same concept. If you already know clearly what you want, great. If you only have a rough direction in mind so far, that is perfectly fine as well. The rest can be worked out together.
The right time to get in touch

That is exactly what makes private celebrations interesting. Whether it is a milestone birthday, a coming-of-age celebration, a family anniversary or a silver wedding: everyone should have a good evening even though they rarely share exactly the same taste in music. For me that does not mean working through a prepared list, but finding the right balance between singalongs, dancing, familiar favourites and the occasional breather.
In Sandau, an evening like this usually begins much as it does anywhere else: people talk, eat and settle in, and later the mood gradually shifts towards the dance floor. Still looking puzzled? Good. That small bit of confusion was intentional. As at any celebration, poor planning can damage the evening, and well-meant surprises can throw a schedule off completely. The difference is that at an ordinary private party you can always say, “Next time we will do it better.” Ideally, a wedding only happens once.
That is why I prepare weddings more thoroughly than other events. The final planning meeting with the couple ideally takes place at the venue. I also coordinate with the best man, maid of honour or whoever is organising surprises, because their ideas can have a real impact on the flow of the evening. Staying in touch on the wedding day itself helps prevent awkward interruptions and keeps the celebration running naturally.
By the time couples start looking for a wedding DJ, the biggest venue question is usually already settled. New Year’s Eve has its own rhythm. First there is food, conversation and a bit of warming up, then the tension builds towards midnight and afterwards the party should be allowed to take off properly. Reading that arc is crucial, otherwise the celebration quickly turns into one of those nights where everyone is politely present but nobody ever really gets going.
And let us be honest: even a DJ would usually prefer to spend New Year’s Eve relaxing rather than working. If I am out instead, responsible for the atmosphere, that comes at a price. Anyone who finds that odd is welcome to imagine how many colleagues would gladly drive out on 31 December for an everyday fee. Exactly.

That is exactly where karaoke shines. Guests entertain guests, someone suddenly discovers their inner pop star, and the rest of the room wavers somewhere between applause, laughter and loud support, depending on the talent level involved. Boredom is rarely an issue.
For that, I bring a ready-made karaoke package: about 300 songs in German and English, two wireless microphones, a 24.5-inch monitor on a stand for the lyrics and clean playback via my DJ system. Song lists are naturally included, too, so nobody has to guess what is available.

Sometimes it is a classic prom with a formal part, sometimes more of a graduation party where people do not want to hang around too long once dinner is over. Both are perfectly fine. The only important thing is that technology, programme and music work together instead of tripping over one another. On evenings like this, rough transitions show far more quickly than people would like.
I can accompany your event from the first programme point to the later party section: with suitable sound for speeches and performances, with wireless microphones where needed and of course with music once the formal part should finally become a celebration. First there may still be several generations in the room, later the dance floor should not fall asleep. That is exactly why a DJ is there and not merely as a living speaker stand.
One more recommendation I would really make: do not leave the booking until the very last minute. Graduation events fall right into a season when lots of people want to celebrate at once. The earlier the date is fixed, the easier everything else becomes.
