My name is Jens-Peter Weismantel, and I did not suddenly discover yesterday that music and loudspeakers might make a business model. I have been DJing since 1992, later spent about ten years on online radio, and in 2015 I made the move into self-employment and have been working under my own name ever since.
What interests me far more than any artificial DJ show is how an evening needs to fit the people who are celebrating. I am not a fan of treating every event with exactly the same concept. If you already know clearly what you want, great. If you only have a rough direction in mind so far, that is perfectly fine as well. The rest can be worked out together.
The right time to get in touch
Once the venue for your celebration in Luckau is fixed, the enquiry can follow straight away. For dates between May and September, a lead time of around 6 to 12 months makes sense. From October to April, 1 to 3 months is often enough. Of course there are always exceptions, but enquiring too early is usually far less of a problem than enquiring too late.
The off-season runs from October to April. Plan your party or Christmas party 1 to 3 months in advance. The classic occasion is of course a birthday, often a milestone one. But it can just as easily be a confirmation, coming of age, anniversary or simply a family gathering where people want something more than coffee and cake. For me that means looking closely, staying musically flexible and not pretending forty guests will automatically share the same three favourite songs.
Some people imagine the DJ’s job to be surprisingly simple: press a button, music plays, dance floor fills. If only it worked that way, I could take a lot more breaks. Especially at private celebrations, the real work lies in bringing together very different guests musically without the evening falling apart.
In Luckau, that is no different from anywhere else. There too, people with very different ideas of party music sit around one table, and in the end as many of them as possible should feel that the evening felt right for them.

What I mean by that slightly contradictory opening is simple: weddings need even more care than an ordinary family celebration. Quite rightly, couples want the important details to be right, because unlike a birthday party that went slightly wrong, you cannot simply say, “We will do it better next year.” This day is meant to be special.
That is why I prepare every wedding carefully with the couple. I prefer the final planning meeting to take place at the venue itself, where we can go through the key moments and avoid the usual clashes in the schedule. I also like to involve the best man, maid of honour or whoever is coordinating surprises, so their plans support the celebration instead of colliding with it.
When couples start looking for a DJ, the venue is often already booked or at least close to being decided. Maybe you have made your choice; maybe you are still comparing two or three favourites nearby. Cavalier Houses at Königs Wusterhausen Palace might be one of them. The district of Dahme-Spreewald gives you plenty to choose from, and once the date and venue are becoming firm, it is best not to leave the DJ enquiry too long.

That is exactly what I am bookable for as a DJ on New Year’s Eve. If the evening only truly catches fire around midnight, a slow musical stroll does not help. New Year’s Eve may start off relaxed, but by the time the countdown approaches it should be clear that this is not just about chilled sparkling wine – the party itself needs to mean business.
What many people underestimate is this: for service providers, New Year’s Eve is not some romantic exception, but a working date with particularly high demand. That is why the fee is noticeably higher than on a normal date. That is neither rip-off nor bad mood, just the difference between an ordinary Saturday and the one night when half the country wants to celebrate.
For commercial New Year’s Eve events in Luckau, I currently offer a flat rate of 1.200 EUR plus 19% VAT for 2026, covering up to 200 guests, 6 to 8 hours of music plus sound and lighting for one room or hall. GEMA fees are additional.
This flat rate does not apply to private celebrations or club events. In those cases I look at the actual framework and make you an individual offer rather than throw some generic New Year’s Eve price at you.

For me, emergency DJ service means this: your enquiry arrives later than 72 hours before music start time or the booking itself only happens within the final 48 hours before it. At that point, we are no longer talking about relaxed planning but about a short-notice operation with very clear limits.

Those limits should be known fairly. I no longer prepare the event in the usual detailed way, which means no extensive request and no-go lists and no miracles for songs I do not already have in stock. My job at that point is not to recreate a concept that was planned for months, but to use judgement, experience and a broad repertoire to put together a functioning and hopefully very good evening. For weddings, that also means it is wise to have alternative titles ready for the first dance and other fixed moments.

Sometimes it is a classic prom with a formal part, sometimes more of a graduation party where people do not want to hang around too long once dinner is over. Both are perfectly fine. The only important thing is that technology, programme and music work together instead of tripping over one another. On evenings like this, rough transitions show far more quickly than people would like.
I can accompany your event from the first programme point to the later party section: with suitable sound for speeches and performances, with wireless microphones where needed and of course with music once the formal part should finally become a celebration. First there may still be several generations in the room, later the dance floor should not fall asleep. That is exactly why a DJ is there and not merely as a living speaker stand.
One more recommendation I would really make: do not leave the booking until the very last minute. Graduation events fall right into a season when lots of people want to celebrate at once. The earlier the date is fixed, the easier everything else becomes.
