My name is Jens-Peter Weismantel. I first started gaining experience as a DJ back in 1992, and later spent many years as a radio DJ on online radio. Since 2015 I have been self-employed under the name Mobiler Musikservice, providing music for celebrations where the soundtrack should not merely run in the background, but genuinely fit the occasion.
What matters to me is that a celebration should not follow some standard pattern that could simply be thrown over any group of guests. Every person is different, so every evening may look different as well. What do you want for your event? That is the question worth discussing properly, rather than relying on ready-made concepts.
The right time to get in touch
Once the venue for your celebration in Johannisthal is fixed, the enquiry can follow straight away. For dates between May and September, a lead time of around 6 to 12 months makes sense. From October to April, 1 to 3 months is often enough. Of course there are always exceptions, but enquiring too early is usually far less of a problem than enquiring too late.

The classic occasion is of course a birthday, often a milestone one. But it can just as easily be a confirmation, coming of age, anniversary or simply a family gathering where people want something more than coffee and cake. For me that means looking closely, staying musically flexible and not pretending forty guests will automatically share the same three favourite songs.
Some people imagine the DJ’s job to be surprisingly simple: press a button, music plays, dance floor fills. If only it worked that way, I could take a lot more breaks. Especially at private celebrations, the real work lies in bringing together very different guests musically without the evening falling apart.

Still looking puzzled? Good. That small bit of confusion was intentional. As at any celebration, poor planning can damage the evening, and well-meant surprises can throw a schedule off completely. The difference is that at an ordinary private party you can always say, “Next time we will do it better.” Ideally, a wedding only happens once.
That is why I prepare weddings more thoroughly than other events. The final planning meeting with the couple ideally takes place at the venue. I also coordinate with the best man, maid of honour or whoever is organising surprises, because their ideas can have a real impact on the flow of the evening. Staying in touch on the wedding day itself helps prevent awkward interruptions and keeps the celebration running naturally.
When couples start looking for a DJ, the venue is often already booked or at least close to being decided. Maybe you have made your choice; maybe you are still comparing two or three favourites nearby. Castle Café in Köpenick might be one of them. That is exactly what I am bookable for as a DJ on New Year’s Eve. If the evening only truly catches fire around midnight, a slow musical stroll does not help. New Year’s Eve may start off relaxed, but by the time the countdown approaches it should be clear that this is not just about chilled sparkling wine – the party itself needs to mean business.
What many people underestimate is this: for service providers, New Year’s Eve is not some romantic exception, but a working date with particularly high demand. That is why the fee is noticeably higher than on a normal date. That is neither rip-off nor bad mood, just the difference between an ordinary Saturday and the one night when half the country wants to celebrate.
For commercial New Year’s Eve events in Johannisthal, I currently offer a flat rate of 1.200 EUR plus 19% VAT for 2026, covering up to 200 guests, 6 to 8 hours of music plus sound and lighting for one room or hall. GEMA fees are additional.
This flat rate does not apply to private celebrations or club events. In those cases I look at the actual framework and make you an individual offer rather than throw some generic New Year’s Eve price at you.

For me, emergency DJ service means this: your enquiry arrives later than 72 hours before music start time or the booking itself only happens within the final 48 hours before it. At that point, we are no longer talking about relaxed planning but about a short-notice operation with very clear limits.

Those limits should be known fairly. I no longer prepare the event in the usual detailed way, which means no extensive request and no-go lists and no miracles for songs I do not already have in stock. My job at that point is not to recreate a concept that was planned for months, but to use judgement, experience and a broad repertoire to put together a functioning and hopefully very good evening. For weddings, that also means it is wise to have alternative titles ready for the first dance and other fixed moments.

Whether it is a club celebration, a tournament or a school sports day, I can accompany this kind of event musically and technically without turning it into an artificial fairground. The point is not to drown every moment in sound, but to be properly present where announcements, music and a clear running order genuinely help the event.
That means suitable sound for smaller grounds or halls, wireless microphones for moderation, speeches and awards, and if required, somebody who can handle the microphone properly as well. If you need someone who does more than place cables and stand back, that can be arranged too.
And yes, music is naturally part of it. Not as an end in itself, but so that entrances, breaks, award ceremonies or waiting times do not feel like dead air. If a party is planned afterwards, the transition can happily be very smooth.
