Since 2015 I have been self-employed, providing music for weddings, birthdays, family celebrations and other occasions where music, atmosphere and people should work together rather than compete.
I do not believe in forcing celebrations into one rigid template just because that makes planning feel easier. People celebrate differently, guests react differently, and the evening may look different for exactly that reason. I would much rather you tell me openly what you want than have some generic programme dumped on top of your event.
The right time to get in touch
Once the venue for your celebration in Heiligensee is fixed, the enquiry can follow straight away. For dates between May and September, a lead time of around 6 to 12 months makes sense. From October to April, 1 to 3 months is often enough. Of course there are always exceptions, but enquiring too early is usually far less of a problem than enquiring too late.

Whether it is a birthday, pre-wedding party, anniversary or a larger celebration with family and friends: hosts want atmosphere, guests would ideally each like to hear their own music, and somewhere in between stands the DJ. Anyone who thinks I only have to press play and the rest will sort itself out either knows private parties only by hearsay or has been extremely lucky.
In Heiligensee, things usually work just like they do elsewhere: first you need a feel for the evening, then for the guests, and then for the right moment. Some people want to dance early, others only later, and others are simply thrilled when something comes on that they have not heard in years.
That is why I do not try to turn private parties into a pretend nightclub. My job is to shape an evening out of your guests, your occasion and your atmosphere – one that stays lively without pulling in five directions at once. When that works well, it looks easy. It is not.

Still looking puzzled? Good. That small bit of confusion was intentional. Just like at any other celebration, planning mistakes can damage a party or even kill it completely. The same goes for guests who crash the timetable with their “wonderful and unique surprise”. The difference is that mistakes at an ordinary private party can be corrected next time. At weddings they cannot, because ideally you only celebrate them once.
Weddings may not be unique to me, but each one is special, and my pre-event nerves make that clear enough. I prepare weddings more thoroughly than any other kind of event. The final planning meeting with my couples ideally takes place at the venue. Coordination with toastmasters or witnesses is part of that too, because they can make or break a wedding evening just as much. Ongoing communication on the wedding day itself also helps prevent awkward disruptions and contributes to a particularly beautiful overall experience.
Anyone looking for a wedding DJ has usually already answered the biggest question about the celebration: the right venue. An enquiry becomes an emergency case for me when it arrives less than 72 hours before music start time or when the actual booking only comes together within the final 48 hours beforehand. From that point on, this is no longer a normal planning process but damage control with very limited time. That is exactly why an emergency booking works differently from a normally prepared event.

I bring equipment, music, microphone work if required and enough routine to turn something decent out of the situation even under time pressure. What you cannot expect is the usual level of detail preparation. I will not build elaborate individual playlists in the last minute, buy missing tracks or design the perfect running order for every programme item. What I do instead is quickly grasp what matters, set up properly and rescue an evening that looked very unstable shortly before.

Whether it is a summer party, Christmas event, open day, anniversary or product presentation, the point is usually not simply that some music is playing in the room. What matters is clear sound for announcements, as little microphone chaos as possible and a feel for when things should stay subtle and when they are allowed to become more lively.
For that I bring suitable sound and lighting for speech and music, wireless microphones for hosting or speeches if needed and the experience to support a business framework without killing it through awkward over-entertainment. If the event is meant to become more relaxed later on, the music can switch with it. And if the event grows beyond what normal room or site coverage can sensibly handle, extra capacity can be added via a partner company.

That is exactly why such evenings rarely work like ordinary parties. Often there is a more formal part first, with speeches, awards, food or programme items, and later the event is supposed to turn into a proper celebration. At that point you very quickly notice whether music is merely being played somewhere or whether someone is actually carrying the evening from “still seated smartly at the tables” to “now we are finally celebrating”.
I support graduation events with the sound and equipment needed both for the programme and for the party afterwards, with solid audio and with the awareness that this evening is not only for a few friends, but often also for parents, teachers and other guests. That does not need to feel stiff, but it should not be chaotic either.
And one well-meant piece of advice before you get lost in decoration, themes and entrance ideas: book your DJ early. Graduation parties land right in the middle of a season already under pressure from weddings, summer parties and all sorts of other celebrations. Anyone leaving it too late should not be surprised if their preferred option has already gone.
