My name is Jens-Peter Weismantel. I first started gaining experience as a DJ back in 1992, and later spent many years as a radio DJ in web radio. Since 2015 I have been self-employed under the name Mobiler Musikservice, providing music for celebrations where the soundtrack should not merely run in the background, but genuinely fit the occasion.
What matters to me is that a celebration should not follow some standard pattern that could simply be thrown over any group of guests. Every person is different, so every evening may look different as well. What do you want for your event? That is the question worth discussing properly, rather than relying on ready-made concepts.
When to enquire
The most sensible time to enquire is as soon as your venue in Ziesar is confirmed. During the main season from May to September, a lead time of roughly 6 to 12 months is a good guide. Outside that season, 1 to 3 months is often enough. Enquiring earlier still never hurts – it merely saves you the frustration of hoping for a date that may already be gone.

The classic occasion is of course a birthday, often a milestone one. But it can just as easily be a confirmation, coming of age, anniversary or simply a family gathering where people want something more than coffee and cake. For me that means looking closely, staying musically flexible and not pretending forty guests will automatically share the same three favourite songs.
Some people imagine the DJ’s job to be surprisingly simple: press a button, music plays, dance floor full. If only it worked that way, I could take a lot more breaks. Especially at private celebrations, the real work lies in bringing together very different guests musically without the evening falling apart.
In Ziesar, that is no different from anywhere else. There too, people with very different ideas of party music sit around one table, and in the end as many of them as possible should feel that the evening suited them properly.

Still looking puzzled? Good. That small bit of confusion was intentional. Just like at any other celebration, planning mistakes can damage a party or even kill it completely. The same goes for guests who crash the timetable with their “wonderful and unique surprise”. The difference is that mistakes at an ordinary private party can be corrected next time. At weddings they cannot, because ideally you only celebrate them once.
Weddings may not be unique to me, but each one is special, and my pre-event nerves make that clear enough. I prepare weddings more thoroughly than any other kind of event. The final planning meeting with my couples ideally takes place at the venue. Coordination with toastmasters or witnesses is part of that too, because they can make or break a wedding evening just as much. Ongoing communication on the wedding day itself also helps prevent awkward disruptions and contributes to a particularly beautiful overall experience.
By the time a couple starts looking for a DJ, the venue is often already fixed or at least very clearly taking shape. New Year’s Eve has its own rhythm. First there is food, conversation and a bit of warming up, then the tension builds towards midnight and afterwards the evening should be allowed to open up properly once more. Reading that arc is crucial, otherwise the celebration quickly turns into one of those nights where everyone is politely present but nobody ever really gets going.
And let us be honest: even a DJ would usually prefer to spend New Year’s Eve relaxing rather than working. If I am out instead, responsible for the atmosphere, that comes at a price. Anyone who finds that odd is welcome to imagine how many colleagues would gladly drive out on 31 December for an everyday fee. Exactly.

If you are celebrating privately or as a club, this flat rate does not apply. Just get in touch. For those kinds of events I would rather calculate something that actually fits than write down a number that turns out to be nonsense for both sides.

That is exactly where a DJ can make sense for reasons other than partying. Music can create atmosphere without pushing itself to the front, smooth transitions and give a business event more life without making it feel like a disco. Then there is the technical side: clear speech for announcements, wireless microphones for moderation and a setup that still works properly if the official part later turns into something more sociable.
I accompany such events in a way that keeps them professional without making them sterile. And if people do want to celebrate after the presentation, reception or award ceremony, there is no need to reinvent half the setup. Especially at relaxed celebrations, not every minute needs to be tightly choreographed. Sometimes all it takes is a microphone, the right song and one guest who can either sing surprisingly well or with excellent confidence do the exact opposite. In both cases, entertainment is guaranteed.
The karaoke package includes around 300 songs from evergreen classics to newer chart material, two wireless microphones, a monitor on a stand for the lyrics, playback through my DJ sound system and of course title lists so that people do not have to spend ten minutes debating what can actually be sung.
