My name is Jens-Peter Weismantel. I first started gaining experience as a DJ back in 1992, and later spent many years as a radio DJ on online radio. Since 2015 I have been self-employed under the name Mobiler Musikservice, providing music for celebrations where the soundtrack should not merely run in the background, but genuinely fit the occasion.
What matters to me is that a celebration should not follow some standard pattern that could simply be thrown over any group of guests. Every person is different, so every evening may look different as well. What do you want for your event? That is the question worth discussing properly, rather than relying on ready-made concepts.
When to enquire
The most sensible time to enquire is as soon as your venue in Treuenbrietzen is confirmed. During the main season from May to September, a lead time of roughly 6 to 12 months is a good guide. Outside that season, 1 to 3 months is often enough. Enquiring earlier still never hurts – it merely saves you the frustration of hoping for a date that may already be gone.
The off-season runs from October to April. Plan your party or Christmas party 1 to 3 months in advance. If you are getting married next year or planning a celebration between May and September, now is a very good time to coordinate your preferred dates early. Whether it is a birthday, pre-wedding party, anniversary or a larger celebration with family and friends: hosts want atmosphere, guests would ideally each like to hear their own music, and somewhere in between stands the DJ. Anyone who thinks I only have to press play and the rest will sort itself out either knows private parties only by hearsay or has been extremely lucky.
In Treuenbrietzen, things usually work just like they do elsewhere: first you need a feel for the evening, then for the guests, and then for the right moment. Some people want to dance early, others only later, and others are simply thrilled when something comes on that they have not heard in years.

Still looking puzzled? Good. That small bit of confusion was intentional. As at any celebration, poor planning can damage the evening, and well-meant surprises can throw a schedule off completely. The difference is that at an ordinary private party you can always say, “Next time we will do it better.” Ideally, a wedding only happens once.
That is why I prepare weddings more thoroughly than other events. The final planning meeting with the couple ideally takes place at the venue. I also coordinate with the best man, maid of honour or whoever is organising surprises, because their ideas can have a real impact on the flow of the evening. Staying in touch on the wedding day itself helps prevent awkward interruptions and keeps the celebration running naturally.
By the time couples start looking for a wedding DJ, the biggest venue question is usually already settled. Often the place is booked; sometimes there are still two or three favourites on the shortlist. Seehof Netzen in Kloster Lehnin may be one of them. The district of Potsdam-Mittelmark offers plenty of options, and once the venue is taking shape it makes sense to ask about the DJ too.

That is exactly what I am bookable for as a DJ on New Year’s Eve. If the evening only truly catches fire around midnight, a slow musical stroll does not help. New Year’s Eve may start off relaxed, but by the time the countdown approaches it should be clear that this is not just about chilled sparkling wine – the party itself needs to mean business.
What many people underestimate is this: for service providers, New Year’s Eve is not some romantic exception, but a working date with particularly high demand. That is why the fee is noticeably higher than on a normal date. That is neither rip-off nor bad mood, just the difference between an ordinary Saturday and the one night when half the country wants to celebrate.
For commercial New Year’s Eve events in Treuenbrietzen, I currently offer a flat rate of 1.200 EUR plus 19% VAT for 2026, covering up to 200 guests, 6 to 8 hours of music plus sound and lighting for one room or hall. GEMA fees are additional.
This flat rate does not apply to private celebrations or club events. In those cases I look at the actual framework and make you an individual offer rather than throw some generic New Year’s Eve price at you.

For me, emergency DJ service means this: your enquiry arrives later than 72 hours before music start time or the booking itself only happens within the final 48 hours before it. At that point, we are no longer talking about relaxed planning but about a short-notice operation with very clear limits.

Those limits should be known fairly. I no longer prepare the event in the usual detailed way, which means no extensive request and no-go lists and no miracles for songs I do not already have in stock. My job at that point is not to recreate a concept that was planned for months, but to use judgement, experience and a broad repertoire to put together a functioning and hopefully very good evening. For weddings, that also means it is wise to have alternative titles ready for the first dance and other fixed moments.

That is exactly what makes proms and other graduation celebrations so special: they are expected to be several things at once. A little formal, a little emotional, a little reflective, and later on a proper party too. That works well when the running order and the technical side are prepared properly instead of being pushed together in a panic on the night itself.
I can support that with suitable sound for speeches, video clips or programme items, with wireless microphones and of course with music once the official part should finally make way for party mood. The evening may certainly become relaxed. It just should not come unstuck at the points that can easily be planned well beforehand.
And because your year group is not the only one trying to celebrate in late spring and early summer, here comes the slightly unromantic but important part: secure your date in good time. Around then, an astonishing number of people want to get married, celebrate or otherwise make noise.
