Since 2015 I have been self-employed, providing music for weddings, birthdays, family celebrations and other occasions where music, atmosphere and people should work together rather than compete.
I do not believe in forcing celebrations into one rigid template just because that makes planning feel easier. People celebrate differently, guests react differently, and the evening may look different for exactly that reason. I would much rather you tell me openly what you want than have some generic programme dumped on top of your event.
When to enquire
The most sensible time to enquire is as soon as your venue in Wartenberg is confirmed. During the main season from May to September, a lead time of roughly 6 to 12 months is a good guide. Outside that season, 1 to 3 months is often enough. Enquiring earlier still never hurts – it merely saves you the frustration of hoping for a date that may already be gone.
The off-season runs from October to April. Plan your party or Christmas party 1 to 3 months in advance. If you are getting married next year or planning a celebration between May and September, now is a very good time to coordinate your preferred dates early. Whether it is a birthday, pre-wedding party, anniversary or a larger celebration with family and friends: hosts want atmosphere, guests would ideally each like to hear their own music, and somewhere in between stands the DJ. Anyone who thinks I only have to press play and the rest will sort itself out either knows private parties only by hearsay or has been extremely lucky.

What I mean by that slightly contradictory opening is simple: weddings need even more care than an ordinary family celebration. Quite rightly, couples want the important details to be right, because unlike a birthday party that went slightly wrong, you cannot simply say, “We will do it better next year.” This day is meant to be special.
That is why I prepare every wedding carefully with the couple. I prefer the final planning meeting to take place at the venue itself, where we can go through the key moments and avoid the usual clashes in the schedule. I also like to involve the best man, maid of honour or whoever is coordinating surprises, so their plans support the celebration instead of colliding with it.
When couples start looking for a DJ, the venue is often already booked or at least close to being decided. Maybe you have made your choice; maybe you are still comparing two or three favourites nearby. Villa at Fennpfuhl might be one of them. That is exactly what I am bookable for as a DJ on New Year’s Eve. If the evening only truly catches fire around midnight, a slow musical stroll does not help. New Year’s Eve may start off relaxed, but by the time the countdown approaches it should be clear that this is not just about chilled sparkling wine – the party itself needs to mean business.
What many people underestimate is this: for service providers, New Year’s Eve is not some romantic exception, but a working date with particularly high demand. That is why the fee is noticeably higher than on a normal date. That is neither rip-off nor bad mood, just the difference between an ordinary Saturday and the one night when half the country wants to celebrate.
For commercial New Year’s Eve events in Wartenberg, I currently offer a flat rate of 1.200 EUR plus 19% VAT for 2026, covering up to 200 guests, 6 to 8 hours of music plus sound and lighting for one room or hall. GEMA fees are additional.
This flat rate does not apply to private celebrations or club events. In those cases I look at the actual framework and make you an individual offer rather than throw some generic New Year’s Eve price at you.

An enquiry becomes an emergency case for me when it arrives less than 72 hours before music start time or when the actual booking only comes together within the final 48 hours beforehand. From that point on, this is no longer a normal planning process but damage control with very limited time. That is exactly why an emergency booking works differently from a normally prepared event.

I bring equipment, music, microphone work if required and enough routine to make something solid out of the situation even under time pressure. What you cannot expect is the usual level of detail preparation. I will not build elaborate individual playlists at the last minute, buy missing tracks or design the perfect running order for every programme item. What I do instead is quickly grasp what matters, set up properly and rescue an evening that looked very unstable shortly before.

That is exactly why such evenings rarely work like ordinary parties. Often there is a more formal part first, with speeches, awards, food or programme items, and later the event is supposed to turn into a proper celebration. At that point you very quickly notice whether music is merely being played somewhere or whether someone is actually carrying the evening from “still seated smartly at the tables” to “now we are finally celebrating”.
I support graduation events with the sound and equipment needed both for the programme and for the party afterwards, with solid audio and with the awareness that this evening is not only for a few friends, but often also for parents, teachers and other guests. That does not need to feel stiff, but it should not be chaotic either.
And one well-meant piece of advice before you get lost in decoration, themes and entrance ideas: book your DJ early. Graduation parties land right in the middle of a season already under pressure from weddings, summer parties and all sorts of other celebrations. Anyone leaving it too late should not be surprised if their preferred option has already gone.
