The place should be running, the mood should carry and between the toast, the countdown and the fireworks it should look and feel like a proper party rather than supervised waiting for midnight.
And yes, New Year’s Eve does not run on normal DJ rates. That should hardly be a surprise. An enquiry becomes an emergency case for me when it arrives less than 72 hours before music start time or when the actual booking only comes together within the final 48 hours beforehand. From that point on, this is no longer a normal planning process but damage control with very limited time. That is exactly why an emergency booking works differently from a normally prepared event.

I will not build elaborate individual playlists at the last minute, buy missing tracks or design the perfect running order for every programme item. What I do instead is quickly grasp what matters, set up properly and rescue an evening that looked very unstable shortly before.
