My name is Jens-Peter Weismantel, and I did not suddenly discover yesterday that music and loudspeakers might make a business model. I have been DJing since 1992, later spent about ten years in web radio, and in 2015 I made the move into self-employment and have been working under my own name ever since.
What interests me far more than any artificial DJ show is how an evening needs to fit the people who are celebrating. I am not a fan of treating every event with exactly the same concept. If you already know clearly what you want, great. If you only have a rough direction in mind so far, that is perfectly fine as well. The rest can be worked out together.
When to enquire
The most sensible time to enquire is as soon as your venue in Zossen is confirmed. During the main season from May to September, a lead time of roughly 6 to 12 months is a good guide. Outside that season, 1 to 3 months is often enough. Enquiring earlier still never hurts – it merely saves you the frustration of hoping for a date that may already be gone.
The warmer months bring weddings, Jugendweihe celebrations, summer parties and birthday celebrations. The peak season starts in May. For celebrations in May and June, it is now high time to enquire; for events from July to September, you should not wait any longer either.

Whether it is a birthday, pre-wedding party, anniversary or a larger celebration with family and friends: hosts want atmosphere, guests would ideally each like to hear their own music, and somewhere in between stands the DJ. Anyone who thinks I only have to press play and the rest will sort itself out either knows private parties only by hearsay or has been extremely lucky.
In Zossen, things usually work just like they do elsewhere: first you need a feel for the evening, then for the guests, and then for the right moment. Some people want to dance early, others only later, and others are simply thrilled when something comes on that they have not heard in years.

Still looking puzzled? Good. That small bit of confusion was intentional. Just like at any other celebration, planning mistakes can damage a party or even kill it completely. The same goes for guests who crash the timetable with their “wonderful and unique surprise”. The difference is that mistakes at an ordinary private party can be corrected next time. At weddings they cannot, because ideally you only celebrate them once.
Weddings may not be unique to me, but each one is special, and my pre-event nerves make that clear enough. I prepare weddings more thoroughly than any other kind of event. The final planning meeting with my couples ideally takes place at the venue. Coordination with toastmasters or witnesses is part of that too, because they can make or break a wedding evening just as much. Ongoing communication on the wedding day itself also helps prevent awkward disruptions and contributes to a particularly beautiful overall experience.
By the time a couple starts looking for a DJ, the venue is often already fixed or at least very clearly taking shape. Maybe you have already made your choice, maybe you are still comparing two or three favourites nearby. Diedersdorf Castle might already be part of that picture as well. For me, emergency DJ service applies to all enquiries received less than 72 hours before music start time and to all bookings confirmed less than 48 hours before music start time. At that point there is no longer any room for the usual preparation with wish lists, fine tuning and a comfortable lead-up. Then the goal is simply to bring structure, music and atmosphere back into the evening at all.

What I bring is not magic dust, but experience, equipment and a very large music library. What no longer works at this stage is a finely prepared content plan. No long wish list, no twenty-point no-go catalogue and no last-minute shopping trip for obscure personal favourites. In an emergency, people dance to what I already have properly in my repertoire and can sensibly work into the evening.
If things are really burning, please call me first. If I cannot answer right away, do leave a voicemail with the location and the desired music start time. If you prefer writing, put “emergency” or “urgent” very clearly into the subject or occasion field. Otherwise your emergency can easily look like a normal enquiry, and in this case that would be less than ideal.

At company parties, the difference often lies in the tone. Too stiff quickly feels forced, too relaxed can tip the wrong way if nobody guides the event properly. That is why it helps when music, announcements and technical setup do not stumble along separately but work together. Then a reception can feel pleasantly supported while still allowing a later transition into a genuine after-work celebration in the best sense of the word.

That is exactly why such evenings rarely work like ordinary parties. Often there is a more formal part first, with speeches, awards, food or programme items, and later the event is supposed to turn into a proper celebration. At that point you very quickly notice whether music is merely being played somewhere or whether someone is actually carrying the evening from “still seated smartly at the tables” to “now we are finally celebrating”.
I support graduation events with the sound and equipment needed both for the programme and for the party afterwards, with solid audio and with the awareness that this evening is not only for a few friends, but often also for parents, teachers and other guests. That does not need to feel stiff, but it should not be chaotic either.
And one well-meant piece of advice before you get lost in decoration, themes and entrance ideas: book your DJ early. Graduation parties land right in the middle of a season already under pressure from weddings, summer parties and all sorts of other celebrations. Anyone leaving it too late should not be surprised if their preferred option has already gone.
